Evangel downs Tuscaloosa Christian

Evangel Christian only needed seven plays to score the first 21 points of the game on their way to a 45-7 win over the visitors from Tuscaloosa Christian.  The win improves the Lightning to 4-0 on the season.

After fumbling the opening kickoff out of bounds at the 8-yard line, Nate Scott ran 72 yards on the first play from scrimmage for a touchdown.  Drew Bell added the extra point for an early 7-0 Evangel lead.

Tuscaloosa fumbled on their second play from scrimmage and Grant Webster ran it in on the second play from 1 yard out.  Bell’s extra point made it 14-0 Evangel less than two minutes into the game.

Evangel only needed four plays on their next possession to add to their lead.  Pete Sullivan scored from 18 yards out and Bell once again kicked the extra point for a 21-0 first quarter lead.

The second quarter was much like the first as Evangel scored on another short drive.  Scott capped off the drive as he ran it in from 3 yards out for his second touchdown run of the night.  Bell’s extra point made it 28-0 Evangel.

The Lightning continued to roll offensively as Clay O’Neal ran it in from six yards out on Evangel’s next possession.  Bell’s extra point made it 35-0.

Bell put Evangel’s next points on the board as he would kick a 29-yard field goal to extend the lead to 38-0.

Evangel closed out their scoring on the night when Webster scored his second touchdown of the night, this one on a 1yard touchdown run.  Bell’s extra point made it 45-0.

Tuscaloosa Christian scored a late touchdown on a 71-yard pass as Evangel closed out the game with a 45-7 victory.

Evangel coach Del Clayton was happy with his team’s effort.  “Overall, it was a good solid win,” Clayton said.  “We kept it basic and got to play a lot of guys tonight.”

Nate Scott paced the Lighting on the ground with 9 carries for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Grant Webster added 2 touchdowns on 5 carries.

Defensively, Sam Stockman had 4 sacks, 4 assists, and a fumble recovery.  Pete Sullivan added 3 tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception.
