Hope powers past South Haven

The Hope Christian Eagles improved to 6-0 on the season on Sept. 27 by taking down South Haven Christian 37-6.

“They were a good, hard-hitting football team,” said Hope head coach Tony Nafe. “I was impressed with our maturity level. We had a lot of guys play very selflessly tonight.

“Overall, I was pleased with the effort,” Nafe added.

Dillon Thompson led the Eagles in rushing, racking up 83 yards on six carries. Timothy Bell recorded 29 yards on eight carries. Top receivers were Thompson, with 171 yards on four catches, Cannon Fuqua, with 100 yards on four receptions, and Bell, with 42 yards on three catches.

Reid Allen completed 17 passes for 230 yards, and Thompson connected on five passes for 99 yards.

Defensive leaders for the Eagles were Houston Daily and Ryan Shealey, both with eight tackles, and Zach Gramstad, with seven tackles.

Quarterback Reid Allen connected with Dillon Thompson on a 67-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and Timothy Bell and Thompson added rushing touchdowns in the second quarter.

Thompson also connected with Cannon Fuqua for a 34-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

South Haven scored its only points of the game on a six-yard pass early in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Houston Daily scored on a 2-yard run.

Thompson connected on a seven-yard touchdown pass to Fuqua in the fourth quarter.
