Briarwood wins thriller over Gardendale

The Briarwood Christian Lions took down the Gardendale Rockets, 24-22 Sept. 27.

BCS opened scoring when Victor Jerald took a 1-yard run in, while also notching the two-point conversion as well to make 8-0, BCS, with 1:07 left in the first.

Gardendale answered on a Dylan Finkley 75-yard run midway through the second. The extra point made it 8-7, BCS.

After the half, Briarwood got on the board after Walker Lott hit Andrew Schaper for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Lott then hit Luke Cunningham for the two point conversion to make it 16-7 with (;15 left in the third.

Gardendale answered with a 4-yard pass for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked, leaving the score 16-13, BCS.

Gardendale’s Samuel Peacock then booted a 33-yard field gal to tie the game at 16-16 midway through the fourth.

Briarwood then scored on a Walker Lott run from 1-yard out. On the two point play, Jerald hit Schaper for the pass. Briarwood led 24-16, with 3:27 remaining.

Gardendale then scored with 27 seconds in the game on a 10-yard pass. The two point conversion was no good, and the Lions held on for the 24-22 win.

Lott finished with 142 yards passing and a score. Jerald ran 26 times for 99 yards.

BCS travels to Talladega Oct. 4.
