HARPERSVILLE —The Coosa Valley Academy Rebels celebrated their senior class by dominating the EMCA Wildcats 41-28, thanks to an imposing run game.

The Rebels scored first, on an 11-yard touchdown run from Niko Teofilo. After another three-and-out from the Wildcats, the Rebels need only four plays to put up another seven points from Teofilo’s 13-yard dash for a 14-0 lead.

On the next drive, EMCA threw an interception CVA followed with a Teofilo 9-yard score. Coosa Valley’s Senior Night good fortune continued as Zach Sharp recovered his own onside kick, but a Teofilo fumble gave the Wildcats the ball at their own 41.

EMCA found daylight on a 59-yard pass for a score, trimming the lead to 21-7.

The Wildcats caught a break with another Teofilo fumble, setting them up at the Coosa Valley 19. Four incomplete passes gave the Rebels the ball, as CVA marched down field before an interception at the EMCA 40 cut the drive short.

The teams would again swap three and outs until a field goal by Zach Sharp put the Rebels up 24-7 at the half.

Coosa Valley received the ball at its own 26 to start the second half. After a 42-yard run by Teofilo, Zach Sharp booted a 48-yard field goal for a 27-7 lead.

The Wildcats’ first play resulted in another interception, this time by Colton Pate. After the drive staled, EMCA drove 80 yards rushing touchdown to make it 27-14.

CVA scored next on a 26-yard carry from Bradley Carroll to go up 34-14.

The Wildcats scored twice more and the Rebels once, with CVA taking the 41-28 win.

CVA head coach Arlton Hudson said he was most pleased by his offense.

“We were going to run the football,” he said. “(We tried) to run the clock down and keep the ball out of their hands because they’re able to score quick.”

Teofilo finished the game with four touchdowns on the ground.

The Rebels hit the road Oct. 4 to play at Edgewood Academy.
