ALABASTER — The Kingwood Christian Lions’ junior varsity volleyball program continued its impressive streak, notching a 2-0 win over county rival Cornerstone Christian to move to 19-0 on the season.

The first set saw the Lions jump out to a big lead and never look back, taking down the Chargers 25-4. The second set saw the Chargers close the gap, but  unable to overcome another big lead as the Lions took the set, 25-13, as well as the match.

Kingwood head coach Tony Boyd praised his team’s effort.

“(We) had a lot of energy,” he said. “When you get this far along you tend to get lax, (but) they’re just in a zone now.”

Kirsten Boyd posted 15 assists, a dig and an ace, Natalie Watts had 10 kills, a block and an ace and Jordan Stephens had three assists, two kills and a dig for Kingwood.

The Lions have just two more scheduled opponents before entering the AISA JV State Tournament, held at Kingwood Oct. 12.
