Man charged with Alabaster armed robbery

A Center Point man is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $250,000 after he was arrested on Sept. 26 and charged with the 2012 armed robbery of an Alabaster grocery store.

Jarin Arturo Chavez, 36, whose address was listed on Watertown Circle in Center Point, was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree robbery after police said he allegedly robbed Alabaster’s La Tienda Rabaja grocery store on Kent Dairy Road on Aug. 26, 2012.

According to Chavez’ arrest warrant, the suspect allegedly entered the store, presented a handgun to a store employee and stole a cash register valued at $100, a total of $525 in U.S. currency and female wallet valued at $10.

According to Alabama law, first-degree robbery is a Class A felony. If convicted of the crime, Chavez would face between 20-99 years in prison.

Chavez is scheduled to appear before Shelby County Circuit Judge Dan Reeves for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 7 at 8:30 a.m.
