When Ben Haase was 2 years old, his family moved from Fon Du Lac, Wisc. to Albertville, Ala.

As a child, Haase was extremely fortunate to have parents who provided him with a rich environment for discovery and imagination. Guitar lessons at age 6, sailing, windsurfing and golfing were a part of his childhood and young adulthood.

Haase has traveled to many of the contingent 48 states, and credits this travel for his love of science.

“I yearned to be a person who was knowledgeable of the world around me,” He said.

The favorite area on his list is the west coast – Vancouver, Canada, Washington State, down the coast through Oregon and into Northern California.

A graduate of Jacksonville State University (April, 2013) Haase considers his interview with Thompson High School Principal Dr. Daniel Steele (and his subsequent hiring) as a blessing.

Recent newlywed Haase (Oct. 5, 2013) is a current Alabaster resident. He and wife Rachel have known each other for more than 10 years. Rachel is currently completing her masters degree.

Covering the basics of chemistry and physics through his classes in physical science, Haase states that he enjoys the collaboration between teachers and departments.

“I feel like I am part of a great big family that is proud of all its members. I have never seen so much school spirit,” Haase said.

Happiest when spending quality time with the people he loves or in class where a question leads to the ultimate big science discussion with everyone participating, Haase is quick to be genuine, earnest and challenging.

“Wanting students to succeed in all aspects of life should be the ultimate goal of every teacher,” Haase said.

A musician at heart, Haase plays guitar, bass, drums and piano and is currently a weekend band member. He is active on the Spirit Committee, decorating the gym and stadium fences for games and of course participating in the homecoming parade which was very successful.

Ben Haase is an interesting and exciting young teacher. Alabaster, keep it
