The Montevallo men’s soccer team is unbeaten in its last two matches, outscoring opponents 6-2.

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team traveled to Americus, Ga. Oct. 16 to take on Georgia Southwestern. Montevallo controlled the game from start to finish and boarded the bus back home having secured a 4-1 victory.

The Falcons controlled the game early. A free kick by Jackson Tolleson led to Andre Williams getting the ball to senior Ricky Davey, and Davey was able to score the first goal of the contest at 20:06 and put the Falcons up by the score of 1-0.

Before the first 45 minutes came to a close, freshman standout Jeffrey Hessenberger extended the Montevallo lead to 2-0. That was Hessenberger’s fifth goal of the season; he is Montevallo’s leader in both points and goals. The score came at 39:18, and Davey recorded his third point on the game, as he was credited with the assist.

Davey would not be done stuffing the stat sheet, however, as he again put the ball in the back of the net just four minutes into the second half. Davey’s second goal of the game was his third of the year.

Not to be outdone, Hessenberger also scored his second goal of the contest in the second half. The goal was Hessenberger’s sixth of the year.

Georgia Southwestern would eventually put one on the board at 78:22, when Ron Calle scored his fourth goal of the season. However, as the buzzer sounded, Montevallo still had a convincing win of 4-1.

Oct. 19 was senior night for the Montevallo men’s soccer team. The Falcons were able to build off of the emotion of the pregame ceremony to win their third conference match in their last four opportunities, defeating USC Aiken 2-1.

The Falcons had the majority of chances in the first half, but were unable to convert those chances into goals. The Falcons and the Pacers were locked in a scoreless tie after the first 45 minutes.

USC Aiken struck first in the second half, when Andre McFarlane was able to head in the Jason King corner kick and give the Pacers a 1-0 lead at 54:25.

Montevallo would remain down one goal for most of the second half, but at 78:06, one of the seniors honored before the match came through in a big way. Nick Saboe got a head on a ball in the box and recorded his second goal of the season and tied the game at one.

The Falcons clinched the victory at 84:49 when Andre Williams took a well-placed ball from Jeffrey Hessenberger, drove into the box, and snuck it past the Pacers’ goalkeeper. The game-winning goal was Williams’ first tally of the season.

The Falcons will take a break conference play for the next match when the head to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on the Palm Beach Atlantic. The match will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26.
