ALABASTER — The Kingwood Christian Lions dropped their second straight game at home, as they faced the Restoration Academy Bulldogs on Nov. 1.  With the 51-6 loss, the Lions finished the regular season with an 8-3 record.

Restoration received the ball first and took command of the game early. The Bulldogs put together a five-play touchdown drive that was capped off by a 29-yard passing play. The Bulldogs attempted a 2-point conversion, but it failed, making the score 6-0 with 10:37 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing possession, the Bulldogs found themselves in the end zone again. They forced a Kingwood fumble and returned it for a touchdown. This time Restoration’s 2-point conversion was successful, making the score 14-0 with 9:51 left in the first quarter.

Following the turnover, the Lion offense continued to struggle. A holding call on second down backed the Lions up and they weren’t able to gain back the lost yardage, forcing them to punt.

The kick gave the Bulldogs a long field, but their offense was not to be stopped. It took eight plays for them to travel 75 yards, for another touchdown. After a successful 2-point attempt, Restoration led 22-0 with 3:41 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs didn’t show signs of slowing down in the first half. They were able to score three more touchdowns before halftime.

Kingwood’s only score came on a 46-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Faulkner, early in the second quarter.

The Lions will face Fort Dale Academy in the first round of the playoffs Nov. 8.

“We are very excited, 8-3, going to the playoffs,” said Kingwood head coach Steve Birmingham about next week’s game. “We are going to work hard next week and see how we do.”
