MONTEVALLO – In honor of Veterans Day, American Village will host a salute to veterans Nov. 11 with various programs being held throughout the day. Admission is free for veterans, active military and children under the age of 4.

Programs will be offered on a rotating basis beginning at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. and will last two hours each, with five programs occurring during each two-hour block.

Participants will have the opportunity to see presentations on topics such as George Washington’s legacy, the office of the president, hardship during the American Revolution, colonial crime and punishment and the Continental Army.

“You can come at any point during the day that you’d like to and step into any of the vignettes,” said Melanie Poole with American Village. A special salute to veterans will take place at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the conclusion of each block and will involve a ringing of the a bell to honor someone who is a veteran or active member of the military, Poole said.

“One of our goals is remembering the price of liberty and teaching children about liberty,” Poole said. “Part of that is military service, and we try to tell that story.”

Tickets are $8.50 for adults ages 18-59 and $8 for youth ages 5-17 and seniors age 60 and above. Veterans, active military and children under the age of 4 are admitted free. For a full schedule of events, visit Americanvillage.org.
