“Rep. Weaver has distinguished herself among freshmen members of the House, and I am proud to recognize her efforts with this important committee post,” Hubbard wrote in a press release.  “April’s background and experience make her an ideal choice to provide guidance and insight to the Internal Affairs Committee.”

The House Internal Affairs Committee is tasked with considering bills dealing with the operations and ethics of the Alabama Legislature.  It also holds disciplinary power over members who violate the body’s rules.

“I deeply appreciate the confidence that the speaker has placed in me, and I’ll work hard to ensure it is justified,” Weaver said.  “I look forward to serving on this important committee to ensure that the House and the Legislature operate in a manner worthy of the citizens of not only Bibb and Shelby Counties, but the state of Alabama.”

Weaver has worked in health care administration for the past 20 years and currently serves as the director of business development at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. She represents House District 49, which encompasses the western part of Shelby County including the cities of Alabaster, Pelham and Helena and most of Bibb County.

Her committee appointment will take effect for the 2014 regular legislative session, which is scheduled to convene on January 14, 2014.
