Thompson girls’ basketball takes down SCHS

ALABASTER — The Thompson Warriors’ girls basketball scored early and often in its Nov. 12 matchup with the Shelby County Wildcats. The Warriors won the contest, 67-17.

The Warriors raced out to a 11-0 lead on the play Myesa Pelton, Janese Richardson and Kelsea Bivins. By the end of the first quarter, Thompson had built a 21-2 lead over the Wildcats.

The Warriors continued the pace, going on a 20-0 run to close out the first half. Thompson headed to the locker room with a 43-2 lead.

Despite being down considerably, the Wildcats came out swinging in the second half, going on 12-9 run to start out. By the end of the third quarter, the Shelby County had cut into the lead, but the Warriors led the Wildcats 59-12.

The Wildcats battled into the fourth quarter, but Thompson’s lead was simply insurmountable. The Warriors outscored the Wildcats 8-5 in the fourth quarter, taking a 67-17 win.

Pelton led the Warriors with 15 points, while Richardson had 12 and Bivins posted eight points apiece. Stats for Shelby County were unavailable at press time.

The Warriors travel to Bessemer City to take on the Tigers Nov. 19, while Shelby County will host Pelham on Nov. 14.
