A pair of suspects are facing charges of fleeing police and unlawfully breaking and entering a vehicle after they allegedly were involved in a crash while attempting to escape from Pelham police.

On the morning of Nov. 14, Pelham police responded to a report of an unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle incident in the parking lot of a business in the 2900 block of U.S. 31.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, officers located the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to stop it, according to Pelham police.

“The vehicle attempted to elude officers, and eventually was involved in a crash at the intersection of Alabama 119 and Interstate 65,” read a police department press release, noting the two people were treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

As of about noon on Nov. 14, police had not released the suspects’ identities, pending the filing of charges against them.

“Two individuals are in custody and the initial case, as well as other potential charges stemming from the attempt to elude and subsequent crash, are still under investigation,” read the release.
