INDIAN SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Indian Springs School Math Team won first place at the University of Alabama Math Tournament in Tuscaloosa Nov. 16.

ISS students Christine Zheng, Jingyu He, Mike Jin, Claire Chen, Yuzhao Pan and Claire Tang also scored second overall in the tournament’s three divisions. Zheng, Jin and Tang each scored in the top 15 percent among nearly 200 competitors from across the state in individual problem-solving.

“This is a great showing for first-time participants,” said ISS math teacher and math team coach Dr. Tom Barr. “The team members are excited about the results and look forward to preparing for upcoming events, this year and in the future.”

The students will again compete in February in the American Mathematics Competition and the Moody’s Megamath Challenge, both of which are international competitions.
