Pelham left handed pitcher Jack Pierce and second baseman Austin Moore committed Nov. 20 to play college baseball at Jacksonville State University and University of Alabama-Huntsville, respectively.
The two seniors, from the Pelham High School 2013 6A State Championship team, were joined by coaches, administrators, family members and fellow students at the signing party held at Pelham High School.
Pierce, a left handed pitcher, who helped hurl them to the state championship last season is looking forward to another strong season with the Panthers. He has chosen to attend Jacksonville state for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. He selected Jacksonville State because of its baseball program. The fact that his older brother is already a member of the Jacksonville State baseball program is a bonus for him, Pierce said.
As a junior, Moore was the starting second baseman for the state championship team. He chose the University of Alabama Huntsville for its strong, disciplined baseball program and the engineering program that it offers. He feels that he could not have a better fit. “The opportunity to play baseball at a great engineering school,” he said. “It’s a perfect fit.”
