A new ride

- The last remaining Shelby County team was eliminated after reaching the semifinals of the Dizzy Dean 7-and-under baseball state tournament when the Chelsea All-Stars fell to Northport 13-4 to end their run July 7.
After the end of the 2012 holiday season, walking into the Riverchase Galleria food court struck fear into the hearts of local children.
The well-known and loved carousel, which has spun merrily in the center of the food court since 1991, was gone. And there was no knowing exactly when it would return.
“People were so afraid it was gone permanently,” said Galleria Marketing Manager Chris White. “They were so afraid it wasn’t going to come back. They were saying, ‘Oh, it’s not going to be the same. It’s going to look different.’ They have all been blown away.”
