NORTH SHELBY – The Knightingales, Mt Laurel Elementary School’s show choir, will take the stage for its first-ever holiday concert at Samford University’s Wright Center in Birmingham Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the concert, titled “Holiday Music from the Movies,” are $3 each and can be purchased at the door. Show choir director Haley Spates said more than 1,500 tickets have been sold thus far. Tickets are capped at 2,600.

“We have about 600 performers and a show choir of 110 students,” Spates said. “We will have singing, dancing, tap dancing and snow falling!”

The Knightingales, whose name is a mash-up of Mt Laurel’s mascot and the songbird, is comprised of fourth and fifth grade students. The students meet for 30 minutes of learning and rehearsal each week, Spates said.

The choir will sing songs from holiday movies such as “The Polar Express,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and “White Christmas,” to name a few.  Ensembles from all grade levels also will perform.
