Colonel Salvatore M. Pino’ Jr., age 96, of Pelham, passed away in his son’s home on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Mr. Pino’ was born to Salvatore Pino’ and Assunta Pino’ on March 28, 1917, in New York City. He was a graduate of Fordham University in 1938, where he was captain of the fencing team. He graduated Fordham Law School in 1941, where he was a member of the Law Review. Following his graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Northern African and the European Theaters during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. During the war he met the love of his life and married Alline Campbell Pino’ who was an officer in the Women’s Army Corps.

They were the first officers to be married in the US during WWII. They were married 67 years, until her death in 2010. Following the war, Mr. and Mrs. Pino’ returned to New York to raise a family. There he served as an assistant District Attorney in New York City for 25 years, working primarily in the homicide division, and later as the chief of the indictment bureau. While working in the District Attorney’s office, he continued serving in the Air Force Reserves and retired as a full Colonel. After retirement he was a law professor at New York Law School. In 1987, he and his wife, Alline, returned to her native home in Alabama where they lived until their deaths. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Pino’ is survived by a son, Attorney Jim Pino’ (Elizabeth); daughter, Judith Ann Stallone NPP (Frank); grandchildren, Jeff Pino’ (Jessie), Jennifer Pino’ Pollan (Jason), Matthew Stallone, Susan Stallone and Justin Pino’; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Pino’ and Evelyn Pino’.

The family will receive friends on Dec. 3 from 5-7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass for Mr. Pino’ will be celebrated by Father Doug Vu on Dec. 4 at 11 a.m., also at the church. Memorials in honor of Mr. Pino’ may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.

Mr. Pino’ was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched.
