Oak Mountain’s Jones signs lacrosse scholarship

Brittni Jones received a four-year scholarship to play Lacrosse at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. Jones is a senior at Oak Mountain High School and a four-year member of the Oak Mountain Women’s lacrosse team.  Brittni is the first OMHS woman to receive a Division II scholarship in Lacrosse.

Jones never played Lacrosse prior to high school, but attended tryouts and has been playing high school and club Lacrosse continuously since.

While Lacrosse is not yet an officially sanctioned high school sport in Alabama, according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, it is the fastest growing sport in the United States. It is played at high schools and universities in many states, especially the upper South, North and Midwest.  The Oak Mountain team is a member of the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association.  Teams representing local high schools include Hoover, John Carroll, Mountain Brook, Spain Park and Vestavia.

While playing Lacrosse, Jones has maintained a 3.9 GPA (without credit for her AP courses).  According to a release form her family, she plans to major in Chemistry/Biology.  The release went on to say her vocational objectives are not finalized, but is leaning towards research.
