James Monroe Hope, age 91, of Shelby, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Bolton Funeral Home of Columbiana with Pastor Chris DeGreen officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Gardens. Visitation will be Dec. 9 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hope was a World War II veteran with the Navy Construction Battalion 59 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He retired from Robins Engineering as a civil engineer.

Mr. Hope is preceded in death by his son, James Monroe Hope Jr.; brother, William Blanton Hope Jr.; sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Hudson Hope and Ramona S. Hope.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Leila Mae Moseley Hope; daughters, Carolyn Elise Catron, Amy S. Hope, Ann Hope Jones (Earl) and Robin Hope; grandchildren, James E. Catron (Kelley), Amelia Jones Hale (Kevin), Virginia Jones Oleinick (Jason), Sara Diane Archibald and Patrick Monroe Jones; great-grandchildren, Lauren Miller, Georgia Ann Oleinick, Jackson Oleinick and Gavin Hale; sister, Susie Hope Hudson (C. Brooks); brother, Carl Frederick Hope; niece, Nora Jean Hope; nephew, James Andrew Hope; and a host of other family and friends.
