Suspects charged with string of Alabaster burglaries

A pair of suspects are being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000 apiece after they were arrested and charged with a string of burglaries in Alabaster.

The Alabaster Police Department arrested 30-year-old Ashville resident Justin Christopher Thompson and 41-year-old Calera resident Terri Kimberly Smith and charged each with three counts of third-degree burglary and three counts of first-degree theft of property.

The suspects were arrested without incident at a residence on Branchwater Way in Maylene on Dec. 12.

According to Alabaster Police, Smith and Thompson were arrested in connection with several recent burglaries on Carriage Drive, Maylene Drive and Redwood Drive in Alabaster.

According to Alabama law, first-degree theft of property is a Class B felony and third-degree burglary is a Class C felony. If convicted of the crimes, the two suspects could face up to 10 years in prison per burglary charge and up to 20 years per theft of property charge.
