A 34-year-old Pelham man is facing charges of aggravated stalking, second-degree domestic violence, third-degree burglary and interference with a domestic violence call after deputies said his ex-girlfriend shot him in the leg on Dec. 18.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Pelham resident Klark Alan Gray on the four charges after responding to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 500 block of Seales Road just north of Helena.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 32-year-old female resident at the house called deputies at about 7 p.m.to report she shot Gray after allegedly discovering him in her basement. The victim said she went into her basement to smoke a cigarette when she noticed Gray in the basement.

“She tried to use her cell phone to call 911, but he took it from her and smashed it,” read a Sheriff’s Office press release. “He then chased her around the basement and grabbed her (before) a struggle ensued.”

The victim then took a pistol from her pocket and shot Gray in the leg before Gray fled the scene, dropping his cell phone. The victim then used Gray’s cell phone to call 911.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they used a tracking dog to locate Gray at about 8:30 p.m. before transporting him to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

As of Dec. 19, Gray remained in the hospital, and was scheduled to be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail when released from treatment.
