Denise Bates McDowell, age 55, of Calera, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. A chapel service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 at Bolton Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Brasher and Rev. Dave Patrick officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera.

Mrs. McDowell is survived by her daughter, Jessica Leigh Franks (Jason); son, Justin Noel McDowell (Grant); parents, Bruce and Jerry Bates; granddaughter, Danica Leigh Franks; sisters, Cindy Crabb (Terry) and Rhonda Sykes (Mike); nieces and nephews, Brandon, Amanda, Amber and Cayla; and a host of friends.
