Mr. John Wesley (J.W.) McCartney, age 57, of Brierfield, passed away at his residence on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his favorite girlfriend (his dog, CoCo). Some of the most important events in his life were his marriage and the births of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen McCartney; his father, Charles McCartney; his mother, Betty Cannady Smith; his daughter, Angela Roxby; his son, Eric McCartney; his sister, Sharon Epperson; his brother, Craig Pearson; five grandchildren, Adam, Caitlyn, Julie, Mason and Ana; one great-grandchild, Acacia; his aunt, JoAnne Scheinebeck; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Smith; and his brother, Curtis McCartney.
