A Facebook page, Prayers for Lauren George, was set up Jan. 21 after her identity was released. In addition, a CaringBridge.com site was established to update friends and family on George’s recovery.

In a Jan. 21 post on CaringBridge.com, JoAnn James said George had a successful surgery where part of her skull was removed to reduce swelling.

“Lauren had a pretty good night,” a post written by James read Jan. 22. “They decreased her medicine to check her responses and she responded to Kami’s (George’s mother) voice during this time.”

George suffered a single gunshot wound at Falcon Manor Apartments in the 200 block of Overland Road. A news release the Montevallo Police Department issued on Jan. 21 stated George was “seriously injured” when they arrived on the scene. George was then transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where she is being treated.

“We are attempting to locate witnesses as well as suspects,” the news release stated.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Montevallo Police Department at 665-1264.
