COLUMBIANA—Magnolia Creek, an eating disorder facility nestled among thirty-six wooded acres in Columbiana, will be featured in an upcoming episode of the Dr. Oz Show.

The episode will feature a 43 year old woman who has been struggling with severe anorexia for over 25 years. The woman, who is 5 foot 1, weighs only 57 pounds.

“This is a very extreme case,” said Jane Johnson, Clinical Program Coordinator at Magnolia Creek.

The biggest concern was transporting the New Jersey woman to the facility, explained Jamie Edwards, Executive Director of Magnolia Creek.

Edwards said that the woman insisted on walking through the airport herself without the use of a wheelchair.

“It was nothing short of astounding,” Edwards said of her journey. “You’ve never seen anything like it.”

The woman is currently receiving treatment at Magnolia Creek, which offers a variety of treatment programs for its clients.

Clients meet with their primary therapist on a regular basis and interact with a community of peers in therapy processes and psychoeducational groups.  Clients also participate in group activities such as expressive arts, cooking classes, and community service.

All food and snacks are served around the table, Edwards said, and the facility works to make meal times a positive experience.

The Dr. Oz episode is set to air Jan. 31 and a follow-up episode will hopefully air in the future.
