FROM STAFF REPORTS

The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning for Shelby County effective from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24.

Bitterly cold temperatures are expected during that time, with the mercury falling to 15 degrees or below after midnight.

NWS warns that temperatures in the teens may cause water pipes to rupture and pose a threat to sensitive vegetation and livestock. The conditions also are potentially hazardous to people and pets who are vulnerable to the cold.
