Amie Beth Dickinson Shaver will emcee the Shelby County Arts Council fashion show luncheon on Feb 8 at Columbiana First Baptist Church.

Shaver has spent her life in Shelby County. The adopted daughter of Dr. Doug and Barbara Dickinson, Shaver was Miss Shelby County 1992 and Miss Alabama 1994. Shaver’s platform was the importance of education, abstinence and character.

“I am living proof of my pro-life belief,” Shaver said. “Because my biological mother chose life, I have been blessed with a wonderful, fulfilled life, loving parents, husband and four children.”

Through her experiences as Miss Alabama, Shaver found her passion, public speaking. After graduating from Samford University with a degree in communication, she continued speaking to teenagers in her 202 and women in her 30s. Today working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Shaver speaks on bullying, social media and the importance of displaying character in your life.

“My dream was to be Miss Alabama,” Shaver said. “I was first runner up and God taught me so much that summer, that his power is sufficient in weakness and I can do nothing by my strength but by his strength as II Corinthians. 12:9 says. I became Miss Alabama after Heather Whitestone won Miss America. It was a life-changing time, humbling, and preparation for my life today.”

Shaver is running for the vacant seat for State House District 43. The Republican primary is June 3, 2014.

“I desire to continue in the footsteps of a great lady, Mary Sue McClurkin,” Shaver said. “I am pro-business, family, education and adoption. It would be an incredible honor to serve my community.”

“God has been preparing you all your life,” said her husband, Chris.

The Shelby County Arts Council luncheon is sponsored by the Culture, Novella and Vignette clubs of Shelby County. An art sale will begin at 10 a.m. with all proceeds benefitting the SCAC. The luncheon begins at 11 a.m. with adult fashions by Chelsea’s Cato, Galleria’s Cache and Summit’s Ann Taylor. Purchase individual tickets for $25 or reserved tables for eight for $250 at Busy Hands, SCAC, online at Shelbycountyartscouncil.com or from all clubwomen.

Writer’s note: I deeply apologize for misspelling Mrs. Shaver’s name in my Jan. 15, 2014 column.
