The Alabama Department of Transportation and Shelby County Highway Department are scraping and sanding roads throughout the county, Shelby County Emergency Management Director Hubbard Harvey said.

Harvey said they are working the roads as fast as possible, but asked that people stay off the roads.

“If you’ve got a dry, warm place to stay, please stay there,” he said.

The Shelby County EMA has issued ice alerts for 50 roads in the county.

“We do not have any roads officially closed at this time, but we have many that are more or less impassible that we would like for people to stay off of,” Hubbard said.
