Two arrested, one hospitalized in Wilsonville home burglary case

WILSONVILLE—Two young men facing charges in Jan. 25 Wilsonville home burglary were arrested Sunday, Jan. 26.

According to court documents, Christopher Damien Tompkins, 20, and Javon Desha Tompkins, 22, face charges of first-degree assault and first-degree burglary following their arrest by Shelby County deputies. Both charges have a bond of $15,000.

The third suspect is still in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds. Once he is release, Sheriff’s investigators will charge him appropriately.

Charging documents filed in Shelby County District Court accuse the young men of unlawfully entering the dwelling of Maurice Aval Thomas with the intent to commit a crime. Both suspects were armed with shotguns.

According to a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office new release, deputies responded to a report of a person shot at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 at a residence in the 31000 block of Alabama Highway 25. Upon their arrival, deputies learned that the shooting occurred as a result of the homeowner returning home while it was being burglarized. One of the suspects shot the homeowner in the leg and one of the suspects was also shot by the homeowner.

Shelby County deputies arrested two additional suspects, one at the scene and one who had fled the scene.

The third suspect in the case remains in the hospital with charges pending.
