CHELSEA — Hundreds of seedlings will be given away as part of the city of Chelsea’s 15th annual Arbor Day celebration Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The celebration, which recognizes the city’s designation as a member of the Tree City USA program, will be at Chelsea Recreational Park off Shelby County 39. Guests can enter drawings for container trees and other prizes. Coloring books and other activities will be available for children, and information about planting and care for trees will be on hand.

The Tree City USA program, established by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizes communities that achieve four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
