The Westminster-Oak Mountain indoor track teams participated in the AHSAA State Indoor Championships Feb. 7-8, with the boys team finishing sixth overall and the girls taking home third.

Senior Katie Brooks Boone broke her own AHSAA Indoor 60-meter record with a Milesplit National First Team time of 7.70 seconds. She placed second in the 400, forcing the winner to break K.B.’s state record. She also was part of two Bronze medal relay teams.

Senior Morgan Reynolds was part of the Bronze medal 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams as well as placing ninth in the 800-meter with an Indoor School record. Morgan and freshman Maddie Hoaglund placed fourth and fifth in the 1600-meter with Maddie also taking the Silver medal in the 3200-meter.

Alice Boone placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles and seventh in the shotput. The boys captured the Bronze in the 4×800-meter relay, and fourth in the 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relays. Freshman Scott Landers captured the bronze in the 800-meter with a school record, and also finished fifth in the 1600-meter. Jake Carrell placed fifth in the 800-meter and ninth in the 400-meter.

Pelham High’s indoor track team captured the 6A AHSAA Indoor Track State Runner-Up trophy, with several individuals capturing state titles.

Recent University of Texas signee Caitland Smith took home an individual state championship in the 400-meter with a time of 56.61 seconds and finished second in the 60-meter with a time of 7.51 seconds. Smith also nabbed third in the long jump competition.

Mary Grace Strozier claimed an individual state championship in the two-mile race, also finishing second in the 1600-meter and third in the 800-meter event.

Erin Hines took home second overall in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, one inch. Hines also finished fourth in the 400.

Alex Ladewig finished seventh in the triple jump competition, while the relay teams of Smith, Hines, Quiana Moore and Samantha Hassen and Claire Vaughn, finished fourth in the 4×200 relay, while the squad of Jordan Allison, Lesya Lackey and Strozier finished fifth in the 4×800.
