The Shelby County, Hoover and Alabaster school systems will be closed all day on Wednesday Feb. 12.

On Feb. 11, Shelby County was placed under a winter storm warning.

Reports from the National Weather Service predict snow and potential hazardous road conditions beginning around noon Wednesday.

All extracurricular events Wednesday evening are canceled and will be rescheduled.

“We will continue to monitor weather conditions that may affect Shelby County Schools for Thursday,” read a Shelby County Schools press release. “An announcement concerning our status then will be made later in the day Wednesday.”

“We want to put our students in a situation that’s best for their safety. We don’t want parents thinking it’s a regular day and then we have to call an early school day,” said Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers. “We have been placed under a winter storm warning, and that’s a whole other ball game. We want to err on the side of caution.”

A post on Hoover City Schools’ website read, “All Hoover City Schools closed Wednesday due to continued weather threat.”
