MONTEVALLO—Members of the headquarters staff of Phi Gamma Delta, known as “FIJI,” are headed to the University of Montevallo campus to recruit male students to become the founding fathers of the new fraternity.

Phi Gamma Delta, the first fraternity added to UM’s Greek community since 1995, was founded in 1848 at Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Penn., on the values of friendship, knowledge, service, morality and excellence.

The fraternity will provide numerous academic-based scholarships to University of Montevallo students, including a $250 Academic Achievement Award to all men joining the fraternity who achieve at least a 3.2 GPA during their initial semester. Phi Gamma Delta will also offer up to $1,000 in scholarships to University men of all classes through its White Star Scholarship program.

The fraternity will aid its new members through an emphasis on academic assistance, leadership development, community service, gentlemanly conduct, scholarship and the development of the individual.

Phi Gamma Delta does not haze its new members. New members instead complete a progressive education period and have immediate leadership responsibilities and opportunities in the new organization.
