Robin Hollingsworth will be the new principal at Valley Intermediate School in Pelham.

The Shelby County Board of Education approved Hollingsworth for the position during its regularly scheduled meeting Feb. 20 in Columbiana.

Hollingsworth is currently the assistant principal at Valley Intermediate School. She has 15 years of experience in education and taught at the elementary school level.

Hollingsworth thanked her husband, family and co-workers, many of whom attended the board meeting, for their support. She also thanked current Valley Intermediate School principal Dana Payne Martin, who was recently named the school improvement/federal programs supervisor for the Shelby County School System.

“I learn something from her every day,” Hollingsworth said of Martin.

Hollingsworth said she attended Shelby County schools and her four children attend county schools now.

“Shelby County truly is a model of excellence,” she said.

Hollingsworth has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Montevallo, master’s degree in educational administration.
