MONTEVALLO—University of Montevallo students are seeking local businesses, offices and residents to help during their fourth annual Big Event Saturday, April 5 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Big Event is a half-day of community service sponsored by the SGA, in which students thank the city of Montevallo through service.

“We go out into the community and do what we’re asked to do—anything the community asks of us,” SGA president Rachael Swokowski said.

The students perform a variety of tasks for local organizations, businesses and individual citizens from raking yards to trimming hedges.

The Big Event is designed the help students build a relationship with the community outside of the university, Swokowski said.

“It helps us build a relationship with the community outside of the university,” she explained.

Organizations or individuals who are in need of help and interested in participating in the event should contact the University of Montevallo student life office for more information, at (205) 665-6565.

Applications are to be turned in to the Student Life Office no later than Friday, March 21.
