The Pelham Panthers hosted the Chelsea Hornets in girls’ high school soccer action Feb. 16.  Pelham started the game giving great effort for most of the first half, grabbing a 6-1 win courtesy of a record-breaking performance by Britne Holderby.

In the 30th minute of the first half, Chelsea broke through with a goal from sophomore Megan Young from a corner kick and Holderby got credit for the assist giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead.  Minutes later, Holderby made school history becoming the all-time leader for career goals when she finished off an unassisted goal, her first of the season, pushing the lead to 2-0 Chelsea.

With her first half goal, she now has 60 career goals.  However, Holderby wasn’t done and right before the half ended Chelsea extended its lead to 3-0 on an assist from Sophie Wilson.

Early in the second half, Young scored her second goal of the night with an assist from senior Madison Gowins.  Midway through the second half, Pelham got on the board from a direct kick getting by the Chelsea keeper making the score 4-1, Chelsea.

With Young (assist, Holderby) and Holderby (assist, Maddie Guillen) scoring additional goals resulting in two players getting hat-tricks, the final score was 6-1 Chelsea.  Chelsea moved to 1-1-0 while Pelham is 0-1-0.
