The Thompson High School Warriors hosted the Chelsea High School Hornets in boys soccer action Feb. 25.  The Hornets narrowly escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors.

The first half of the contest both teams started off slow. Chelsea first scoring opportunity came in the 18th minute of the first half but a diving save by Thompson goalkeeper Abel Palacio prevented the goal.

In the 32nd minute of the first half Jonathan Torres got the first clean shot on goal, for the Warriors, but it was off target.

The score was deadlocked at 0-0 going into the half.

Chelsea got things rolling offensively to start the second half. In the 43rd minute of the game William Bevill broke free to score the first goal of the contest for the Hornets.  Ten minutes later he was able to score another goal for Chelsea in similar fashion.

With time winding down Thompson was scrambling to find an answer for Chelsea’s suffocating defense. They got their answer as Dimitry Davis punched in a goal assisted by Xavier Johnson on a throw in. The goal made the score 2-1 with six and a half minutes left in the contest.

With two minutes remaining in the game the Warriors had one more opportunity to score on a corner kick but Chelsea was able to clear the ball out, securing the victory.
