WILSONVILLE—Shortly after 6 a.m. on March 5, Alabama 25 in Wilsonville was closed due to an automobile accident.

Alabama 25 remained closed for “about an hour,” Shelby County Captain Ken Burchfield said, as first responders worked to clear the accident.

Both drivers were injured. One driver was transported to a local hospital in a RPS ambulance, and the other who sustained “more severe” injuries, was airlifted in a helicopter to a local hospital, Burchfield said.

No intoxicating substances were involved in the crash, which was likely a “failure to yield, improper turn, the driver was not in control of the vehicle…we’re looking at one of those,” said Burchfield, who did not know the exact cause of the accident at the time of the interview.

At 7:40 a.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office released a statement announcing that the accident was cleared and the roadway is “open to all regular traffic.”
