A 28-year-old Alabaster man is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling more than $100,000 after he allegedly beat a woman and locked her in a shed to hide her from police.

The Alabaster Police Department arrested Robert Warren Young Jr. on one felony count of domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation and one misdemeanor count of interference with a domestic violence emergency call on March 4.

According Young’s arrest warrant, he allegedly struck a female victim “in the face with his fist, and also choked the victim” at an Alabaster residence on March 1.

Young’s interference with a domestic violence charge came when he allegedly disconnected a call the victim attempted to make to police.

In a bond recommendation submitted to the Shelby County Circuit Court, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office claimed the details of the case were “particularly egregious and include the victim being locked in a shed to avoid detection by police.”

According to the bond recommendation, Young has “multiple prior convictions, including one for escape,” and has previously been charged with domestic violence involving the same victim.

“The defendant is considered extremely dangerous and a potential flight risk,” read the bond recommendation.

As of March 5, Young was being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $103,000.

Domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation is a Class B felony. If convicted, Young could face between two and 20 years in prison.
