Chelsea girls’ soccer comes up short at Mountain Brook

The Chelsea High School Hornets visited the Mountain Brook High School Spartans in girls soccer action March 8.   The Spartans walked away with a 4-0 victory.

The match opened up with a shot by Spartan forward Maggie Clemons, but it sailed just above the goal.

Chelsea responded with a shot by Megan Young with 32 minutes left in the half but it hooked to the right of the goal.

In the 23rd minute of the game Mountain Brook got on the board with their first score of the game. The score came courtesy of Baily Martin and Adelaide Kimberly was responsible for the assist.

At the half the Hornets trailed the Spartans 1-0.

The beginning of the second half saw both teams taking a more aggressive approach. In the first 10 minutes of the half both teams combined for nine shots on goal, but none of them were for scores.

In the 52nd minute of the game Chelsea’s Morgan Bramblett had a solid shot on goal off of a corner kick, but it bounced off the left goal post and sailed out of the field of play.

Moments later the Hornets had another shot on goal but Young was off target on another open attempt on goal.

With 20 minutes remaining in the contest Francis Morris scored a goal for the Spartans assisted by Carlin Pittman making the score 2-0 Mountain Brook.

Two minutes later Mountain Brook scored another goal. This time Anna Gillespy was responsible for the score as the Spartans built a three point lead.

As time wound down, Chelsea had one more shot at breaking the shutout as Kylie Cooper missed a header set up by a penalty kick with two minutes left in the game.

In the last minute of the contest Mountain Brooks Frances Morris added another Spartan score making the final 4-0.

The Hornets move on to take on Pinson at home March 13.
