PELHAM—The Shelby County Landfill waives its drop-off fee twice each year, and Pelham’s Spring Cleanup Day is designed to help residents take full advantage of the opportunity. In partnership with Trash Taxi and Technical Knockout, the city will offer free e-recycling and heavy trash pickup on April 5.

“We’ve been doing this for over 10 years,” said Executive Administrative Assistant Paula Holly. “It’s a favorite among residents. It gives people a chance to get rid of things they can’t normally throw out.”

Starting in the morning on April 5, Trash Taxi will pick up and haul away heavy trash items left curbside by 6 a.m. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Technical Knockout will provide e-recycling for household electronic items at City Hall, and for $10 they offer secure hard drive destruction. A full list of acceptable and prohibited items can be found on the City of Pelham’s website.

Spring Clean Up Day continues on April 26 as the Pelham Public Library partners with Cintas Document Shredding to offer free document shredding. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Pelham residents can bring up to six boxes of paper to the library to shred free of charge.
