CHELSEA – More than 300 Career Tech students including juniors and senior participated in the Second Annual Career Fair at Chelsea High School. FCCLA students help to plan and implement the Career Fair.

FCCLA is a national, non-profit organization devoted to preparing family and consumer sciences students for leadership and future career opportunities. Chelsea has 25 FCCLA members who have benefited from being in the organization. This year, 19 businesses and service organizations provided educational information to students during the Career Fair. Some of the vendors identified factors which could affect earnings, educational requirements, working conditions, occupational outlooks and advantages and disadvantages to their chosen careers. This year’s career participants included My Econ Personal Finance Inc., Chelsea Fire Department, Cadence and Regions banks, the FBI and American Red Cross, just to name a few.

Earlier during the school year, FCCLA students teamed with Winn-Dixie and handed out 100 loaves of bread to people in the community. They also prepared and served hot meals to 60 patients at Hope Lodge. Hope Lodge is a facility for cancer patients who need extended stay for treatment but not hospitalization. And in May, FCCLA members will participate in Relay for Life. The members of FCCLA are involved. The programs and projects are essential to a productive home and work environment. They are continuing to develop college and career-ready skills such as goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication.
