University of Montevallo junior Troran Brown has been selected as a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II All-American following his junior season and is a candidate for the national Player of the Year, the association announced March 25.

Brown, a 6-foot-2 guard from Phoenix, Ariz., is the fifth NABC NCAA Division II All-American in school history.

Brown is the first member of the team to be named a NABC NCAA Division II All-American since D.J. Rivera following the 2011-12 season. James Hall became the Falcons’ first NABC NCAA Division II All-American following the 2004-05 season, while both Marcus Kennedy and Greg Brown were named All-Americans following the 2006-07 season.

Brown was also named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and a first team All-Peach Belt Conference selection, and both a first team NABC and Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selection following his junior season.

Brown played a key role in helping the Falcons (26-6) reach the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 before Montevallo fell to USC Aiken on the Pacers’ home court in the Southeast Region championship game. The Falcons were ranked nationally in the NABC Division II poll throughout the entire season, including four weeks in the top 10.

Brown finished third in the conference in scoring with an average of 18.8 points per game during the regular season. Brown registered 583 total points during the season, which leads the conference at the conclusion of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament.

Brown also paced the conference with an average of 6.7 assists per game, which ranked him seventh nationally in NCAA Division II. Brown handed out 209 total assists, which led the conference and ranked him sixth nationally in NCAA Division II. Brown also finished eighth in the conference with a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Brown recorded the lone triple-double in the conference and was one of only two players nationally in NCAA Division II to accomplish the feat.

Brown shot 44.1 percent (205-of-465) from the floor, with his 205 made field goals leading the conference. Brown also shot 81.8 (117-of-143) percent from the charity stripe, which ranked him ninth in the conference. Brown registered 1.4 steals per game, which ranked him sixth in the conference. Brown recorded 43 total steals, which ranked him fourth in the conference.

Brown averaged a team-high 36 minutes per game, which ranked him second in the conference. Brown, who was named the conference Player of the Week once, scored a career-high 33 points against USC Aiken during his junior season. Brown dished out a career-high 13 assists against GRU Augusta in the conference tournament semifinals, which set a single game record in the tournament.

Brown was a preseason NCAA Division II All-American selection by the Division II Bulletin and a honorable mention All-American selection by The Sporting News. Brown was also a preseason All-Peach Belt Conference selection entering his junior season.
