Letson throws no-hitter as Evangel sweeps Hope

Josh Letson tossed his first career no-hitter to lead Evangel Christian to a 7-0 win over Hope Christian in an Alabama Christian Sports Conference contest on March 31. The Lightning also won the second game of the doubleheader, 13-2, to run their overall record on the season to 22-2, including a perfect 4-0 mark in ACSC play. Hope dropped to 10-11.

Letson (6-1) struck out 12 and walked four, in extending his hitless streak to 11 innings dating back to his previous game.  The senior righthander had three one-hitters already this season, including his most recent start on March 25 vs. T.H.E.

Koty Watts had a single and double and Hahn Hahn Lau had two RBIs to pace the Lightning at the plate.  Starter Douglas Skinner (1-2) took the loss for Hope.

In the second game, Matt Earwood (2-0) pitched four innings, scattering three hits, to earn the win on the mound for Evangel.  Rafy Caballero had a single and double and drove in three runs, and Nate Scott also had three RBIs.  Stephen Cullen added two hits, and he, Watts and Clay O’Neal all scored twice.

Bill Etheredge and Chandler Donergan each had doubles for the Eagles.
