ALABASTER – The city of Alabaster will be helping its residents “clean up, clean out and haul off” garbage and un-needed items throughout April during the city’s Clean Sweep program.

During the program, Alabaster will open its city dumpsters on Maintenance Drive off Sixth Avenue each Saturday in April from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for residents to toss un-needed items during their spring cleaning routines. The dumpsters also will be open to the public Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

The city dump does not accept dirt, rocks, stumps, tires, paint, propane tanks, batteries or any hazardous chemicals, according to the city’s website.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Stacy Rakestraw said the Cintas document shredding truck will be in the Thompson Sixth Grade Center parking lot on April 12 from 8 a.m.-noon, and said Allied Waste will also have an extra dumpster in the school’s parking lot for public use.

Each Saturday morning, except for Easter weekend, crews of volunteers will fan out across the city to pick up trash, plant flowers and complete other beautification projects, Rakestraw said.

Rakestraw encouraged drivers to be mindful and to slow down near the cleanup groups on Saturday mornings.
