Evangel baseball sweeps Saints

Evangel continued its winning ways on April 1, sweeping a baseball doubleheader from rival Evangel Family Christian Academy of Montgomery in a match up of the top two Alabama Christian Sports Conference teams.  The Lightning won the first game 10-4 and the second game 9-5.  The games were played at Montgomery’s Gateway Park.

Andrew Thompson went the distance on the mound in the opening win for Evangel, running his record to 4-0.  He scattered ten hits, while striking out four.  Koty Watts drove in two runs to pace the Lightning attack.  EFCA’s Ben Wuester (5-1) was handed his first loss of the season for the Saints.

In the nightcap, Rafy Caballero had two hits and drove in five runs to lead Evangel, including a bases-loaded double in a five-run sixth inning that broke open the game.  Matt Earwood had three hits, Jacob Albright a single and double and two RBI’s, and Satcher Wells added two hits for the Lightning.

Albright (4-0) earned the win, pitching a complete game and allowing just two earned runs.

With the win, Evangel moved its record to 24-2, including a 5-0 mark in conference play.
