The National Weather Service in Calera has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Shelby County until 7:30 a.m.

At 4:27 a.m. Emergency Management reported major flooding and  numerous high water rescues in progress. Thunderstorms will continue across the warned area with another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall possible.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include Alabaster, Chelsea, Helena, Hoover, Leeds, Montevallo, Pelham, and American Village.

If you are in a flood prone area, move to higher ground now. This is an extremely dangerous and life threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.
