NORTH SHELBY — As of 8:21 p.m. April 10, Alabama 119 has reopened to traffic after a natural gas leak shutdown the roadway.

The gas leak has been contained, and Alagasco crews are working to repair the gas line after it was ruptured in a car crash.

The area affected included Oak Mountain elementary and middle schools. Oak Mountain Elementary School students were sent to Oak Mountain Intermediate School and Oak Mountain Middle School students were sent to Oak Mountain High School. Buses were re-routed accordingly.

The Shelby County Board of Education will determine when it is safe to open Oak Mountain elementary and middle schools, the sheriff’s office said.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution in the area, as there will be first responders and Alagasco crews there for some time.
