FROM STAFF REPORTS

NORTH SHELBY — The North Shelby Library will host a four-part retirement workshop series beginning April 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The first installment in the series, titled “The Retirement Minefield: An Overview of the Most Common IRA Mistakes and How to Avoid Them,” will be led by financial advisor Jeris Burns Gaston of Bridgeworth Financial in Birmingham. Dinner will be served.

“For people at or near retirement, there are additional challenges to be addressed. The concept of  retirement planning for retirees shifts from saving for retirement to making sure your retirement savings last as long as you do,” Gaston said.

Gaston’s presentation will address how complex the retirement planning process can be, the importance of personal circumstances and how avoiding mistakes can be just as important as managing risk in retirement.

In addition, Gaston will address the pros and cons of IRA rollovers, withdrawal options and beneficiary planning.
